Student Engagement

As discussed in Alberta Education’s document on the Teacher Quality Standards, an effective teacher translates curriculum content and objectives into meaningful learning activities that engage students.

The follow are excerpts for  my premanent teacher evaluation, which detail that I have met the descriptors in this section:

” Shawn’s growth in creating lessons that engage his early years learners has been tremendous. Small group, whole group, individual lessons, discussion, use of manipulatives and hands on projects are all part of observed instructional practices. Shawn’s theme-based approach allows him to integrate curriculum areas and provide programming for students with a wide range of abilities. Subtle variations in the student activities ensure that each level of learner meets the outcomes appropriate for their grade and ability level. Shawn is learning to develop strategies for the students that allow them to be problem-solvers for their own learning. Lessons and activities flow from one to the other using effective transitions.”
